Before being on the show, Makosi Musambasi was a registered cardiac nurse that was working at a coronary care unit. After the series aired, however, reports said that she couldn’t find a job as a nurse because of her controversial nudity and make out scenes on the show.
Makosi Musambasi was actually the top rated female housemate on the sixth season of Big Brother, with her final placement being third place. After getting done with the show, though, she almost found herself kicked out of more than just the house – she almost got kicked out of the country. I guess she almost got deported because she quit her job as a nurse so she could appear on the show. Since she was only allowed to stay in the country as long as she was working as a nurse, quitting her job meant she was going to have to leave the country.
Makosi Musambasi had been in Britain since 1998 and didn’t want to go back to Zimbabwe, so she made an asylum application as soon as she found out she was facing deportation. But, that letter was rejected. Ultimately, she was able to convince the tribunal to allow her to stay because they felt she could face “violent confrontation” if she was forced to leave. This was partly because she told them “I am not anonymous to the audience in Zimbabwe – I am recognized everywhere I go by children and adults.”
Makosi Musambasi went on to say that her behavior on the show has made her a target of violence in her native country. In fact, she said they referred to her as a “lowlife lesbian” and said that “it would not be safe for me to return at the moment.”
The tribunal agreed with her concerns. In fact, Francis Pinkerton, who was the chairman of the tribunal at the time, said “She is in a different situation now than she was some seven months ago before appearing on Big Brother. Before that she had been to Zimbabwe on a number of occasions and presumably encountered no problems. The appearance on the show has changed things a great deal.”
As a result of the ruling, Makosi Musambasi is allowed to stay in the country for another five years. Since then, she has done a number of things for charity. In fact, she helped with a phone-in to raise money for those affected by an earthquake in South East Asia. She also reported that the main reason she went on Big Brother in the first place was to try to help her mom, who she said has a benign tumor on her brain that is sitting on her optic nerve and could cause her to be blind.
